So, this morning I am watching the Food Network and just as I sit down
to dig into my yummy spinach and cheese omelet Tyler Florence starts
cooking a Baked Potato Hash Brown that has my salivary glands turning
cart-wills....
The only place I could think of that I could get
Hash Browns with the Pup in tow was McDonald's drive through. So, I let
the pup finish my omelet and excitedly got ready to indulge in some
Hash Browns!
I chose this location because it is 2 blocks from Lady Bird Lake, where I had plans for a morning run.
I
pull up order and wait less than 5 minutes for the 3 cars in front of
me before the 2 Hash Browns are in my hands along with 2 packets of salt
and ketchup.
I drove a block away and parked in the Daughtry
Arts Center parking lot and savored every bite of my Hash Browns while
my pup whimpered and whined to begin the morning adventure or maybe she
wanted a bite, I was no way sharing.
The Hash Browns at this
location are purrfect! - hot and crunchy on the outside with a nice
non-soggy texture on the inside (if you have ever had a hash brown where
they did not wring out all the liquid you know what I am talking
about). I sprinkled some salt on one and poured some ketchup on the
other. The Hash Browns were so perfectly cooked they really only needed
a little salt....
I got home and logged onto http://www.mcdonalds.com
to figure out how much damage I had done to my waist line and was
pleasantly surprised - the Hash Browns only pack in 150 calories! I
know those 150 calories are not that healthy; but I can run them off in
less than 30 minutes......
McDonald's Hash Brown welcome to my weekend morning indulgence list!

Not bad at all. After enjoying a relaxing four days lakeside albeit frozen and a couple days of solid skiing the four of us sat around a table enjoying our Sausage Egg McMuffins one early Valentine's Day morning. It hit the spot. The cheese was actually melted all the way through on our little sausage treats which is rare in my past experiences and the lady behind the counter offered us an unusual upgrade, one that I had not heard before. She asked if we wanted to upgrade to 2 hash browns. We were tempted, well I was.

So running away from the Elm Street McDonald's from up the street, I come here for breakfast. It's raining pretty hard from Hanna, I decide that I need some breakfast. Love breakfast. I have never tried the Southern Style Chicken Biscuit. So I order one with 2 hash browns and an iced tea. This location as a drive-thru. Hurray! But I walk in instead cause the line of cars was absurd. The place seems clean and has TVs. Everything seemed organized. I ordered and my food was hot and fresh. Right out of the fryer. Mmmmm...fried food! It's still pouring. I am getting out of my car at home with my bag'o food and it gets wet. What happens? The FEAST.....is ruined. The paper bag gets wet, it disintergrates and my precious food is on the wet parking lot. NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I scream "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!" and start cursing. Good thing I have some plastic shopping bags in the car. I scoop up my wet food, warm to cold now and run inside. Wet, hungry, and grumpy, I open up the wrapper of the chicken biscuit. Damn it's greasy, and so are the hash browns. But can't have it any other way. I take a bit and start choking cause the biscuit was dry. WATER!!!!!! But oh man was the southern style chicken good. Nice flavor and juicy. The hash browns were good too.
It was a good experience but does not justify an amazing experience. I was still bitter and salty that my bag melted away in the rain and my food fell onto the wet ground. :( Maybe a suggestion with plastic bags like what Taco Bell uses when it rains so people's feast of fast food won't be ruined when it rains like mine was today....
